Granada: A Mini Guide

Granada is a beautiful, historic city in the Andalusian region of Spain. Once ruled by the Moors for nearly 800 years, it showcases a fascinating blend of architectural styles. Expect old-world European charm infused with rich influences from Islamic and North African design. We spent three days exploring this incredible city—here’s our mini-guide for the perfect trip.

Where to Stay

Hotel Palacio de Santa Ines

For us, this hotel checked all the boxes of location, price, comfortable, and helpful staff. The location was absolutely perfect and we could walk everywhere. If this hotel doesn’t meet your specific hotel needs, I recommend looking in this general area as the location couldn’t be beat!

Where to Eat

La Sitarilla

Tapas at La Sitarilla

La Sitarilla is a wildly popular tapas bar in Granada that is famous for large tapas portions. You can absolutely receive a full meal’s worth of food after a few drinks. Be sure to arrive early to queue, 10-15 minutes before it opens, if you’d like to get in with the first seating. This tavern is absolutely worth the visit and boasts traditional Andalusian cuisine with an authentic and lively setting!

La Bodega de Antonio

Another authentic Andalusian spot that boasts delicious food, lovely atmosphere, but also…pigs. They serve bottles of wine in ceramic pig pitchers which is such an exciting addition to any meal. These were wildly popular in the restaurant and for just €15, you can bring home your very own pig pitcher. In addition to their unique way of serving drinks, we also found their tapas serving sizes to be quite generous as well. After a few glasses (and one pig) of wine, we ate enough for an entire meal.

Where to Grab a Drink

La Tabernilla del Darro

Patio at La Tabernilla del Darro

La Tabernilla del Darro is a charming tavern is housed in an old cistern which lends the bar a great ambiance. It’s nestled between the Alhambra and the Albayzín and sits along the picturesque Carrera del Darro. We recommend grabbing a beverage on their patio on a sunny afternoon.

What to Do

Alhambra

Views from the Allhambra

The Allhambra is an absolute must while you’re visiting Granada. I recommend joining a tour, as there aren’t any informational plaques that give you any context while you’re there. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Allhambra is a 13th century palace and fortress in Granada. It’s one of the best examples of Moorish architecture and an important piece of Andalusian history, not to mention uniquely beautiful!
