Bangkok, Thailand
Day 1:
Bangkok is crazy. Right when I got off the tram from the airport to walk to my hostel it starting pouring down rain. Some very nice Thai biker boys let me hide out under their giant umbrella while the rain passed. I finally made it to my hostel - which may be one of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed in. I quickly met Mark, who was staying in my room and he invited me to get dinner with him and Shirely, whom he met when he landed at the airport. The three of us quickly became a little crew. We went to a giant shopping mall called MBK where we set out to find food and SIM cards. We found both. Now I have a Thai number! And data! And my dad won't yell at me for using all the data because it's all mine! 4G for $18 - not too shabby. After the mall we made our way over to Khao San Road to get the full tourist Bangkok experience. We tried scorpion, which was really just crunchy with no taste. But we were all pretty tired so after having a beer over extremely loud pop music we retired to Burger King to plan out and discuss our plans for the next day.
Day 2:
The following day we took a boat and visited the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun. I was forced to wear long pants and a t-shirt since they were all temples and just about died from the heat. They were all beautiful though. So many colors and so much detail in all of their temples and decorations. After a day of exploring temples in the heat we were all pretty tired and decided to rest up before we headed back out that night. We ended up meeting three others in our hostel room - Becky (UK), Jaaf (UK), and Mareen (Germany) and we recruited them into our Bangkok crew. We all went out for dinner and then further explored all Bangkok nightlife has to offer.
Day 3:
The next morning the six of us had intentions of waking up early to go to the floating markets. Instead we had a bit of a lagging late start and decided to go find the airplane graveyard instead. After we paid a small fee to the family that lives there (aka a 5 year old boy guarding the gate) we were let in to explore! It was really cool. We got to climb up on top of a Boeing 747.Later that night I caught the night train up to Chaing Mai. 13 hours of fun inside a tiny bed on the top bunk. I downloaded and watched Hangover II in honor of leaving Bangkok.
