Kampot, Cambodia

Kampot

We have determined that all there is to do in Kampot is eat. Kampot is a cool town in the South Western part of Cambodia on the river. And since there's really not much to do other than eat, that's about all we did.

My old roommate from Virginia Tech, Carolyn, had messaged me a week or so ago saying that one of her best friends was traveling around SE Asia and that we should meet up. I said I'd love to but was secretly thinking about how it would never happen because SE Asia is HUGE and everyone has their own itineraries. Then while we were eating dinner I got a message from her on Instagram. She was seeing what my rough plans of traveling were and that she had just gotten to Kampot. What are the odds!! We ended up meeting up with her and her friend for drinks and we all hung out that night. Other than Kampot, I don't know if our trips will overlap at all but I'm so glad we saw each other here!

Day 2

Today we had three things on our agenda: eat, massage, sunset cruise. That is all we did. We ate at really good restaurants. All foodies should go to Kampot. It's the it location. The hot spot for today's best food in Cambodia. We ate at a really good vegetarian restaurant where I got hummus, pita, and feta. FETA. In Asia! That's one of my favorite things about Cambodia, the fact that they have feta. As a feta snob, I would say it's not real feta. But it's a good substitute. Unlike Cambodian wine, which is not a substitute for wine at all.

After lunch we got blind massages. As in the masseuses were blind. We had to put on these giant, baggy, scrub-like outfits. Then I saw a cute Cambodian grandma feeling her way down the hall to my massage chair. I wouldn't exactly say the massage was relaxing. She basically just squeezed and aggressively poked(?) my body. I was way too ticklish for this and when I wasn't trying to hold back a laugh I was holding back screams because it was semi-painful. I guess I feel kinda relaxed now that it's over. But it was only $5 for an hour and quite the experience.

After dinner we went on a sunset cruise. It was a bit lame. There was no sunset because it was so overcast. But it was pretty floating down the river. That night we just read and relaxed.

Tomorrow we head to Koh Rong!

Disclaimer: I feel like I made Kampot sound lame, but it was cool. I'm being very lazy at writing right now.
